Our Client M&K limited approached us to develop a new e-commerce brand and platform for its organic grocery business.

The Challenge: Use technology to create new brand while redefining the distribution channel for the food and drink industry.

Our Strategy and Approach: Deploy Oakwood Technovation on this assignment. With oakwood technovation, we use technology to transform brands. This is how we did it, see below.

New Product Development & Branding: Developed the Mama Kienyeji brand promise and visual identity. The simple and memorable brand name which in Swahili means traditional or organic and is aligned to the business is represents. We originally wanted to call it Mama Mboga but found the name taken. We later found Mama Kienyeji to have a much more deeper meaning and therefore more suitable.

Channel Innovation: Developed Mama Kienyeji.com’s e-commerce site which has an Ultra modern design, with fully animated sliders, is fully responsive, SSL encrypted, Yoast SEO enabled, YITH enabled for wishlists, personal accounts, and social share.

E-Commerce Payment Integration: The mama kienyeji website have been integrated with MPESA. We assisted the client to sign contract for Lipa Na MPESA. The MPESA we integrated on the website uses the modern and user friendly STK Push methodology. We did not want consumers having to memorise paybill or buy goods number; as we found that to be archaic and a disincentive to buy.

Digital Marketing and Sales Conversion: Developed various brand messages and product sales carousels running on social media. Our communication attained our reach and conversion targets. Mama Kienyeji is on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.

Product Sourcing & Distribution Management: We assisted the client to identify and sign on order fulfilment network (depots and delivery transport logistics), with focus on cost, quality, and speed while providing an excellent consumer experience.

Mama Kienyeji’s style of presentation and its e-commerce channel is a pioneer brand in the e-commerce arena for the food and drink industry and we are proud to have been the team behind this innovative brand idea and its execution.
